A customer sees a video, gets curious, wants to buy. Today, in Sweden, the path looks like this: tap the profile, find the link in bio, load an external site, find the product again, check out. Every step loses buyers.
In the UK, US, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Ireland that detour is already gone. TikTok Shop puts the checkout inside the app: the purchase happens in the video or mid live stream. Sweden is still outside. But likely not for long.
The current status, without the hype
Here is what we know in July 2026:
- TikTok Shop is live in the UK, US, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Ireland, among others.
- Swedish sellers cannot open a shop yet. The Nordics are expected to get TikTok Shop during mid to late 2026, possibly into 2027.
- No official date is confirmed. Anyone promising you an exact launch day is guessing.
That last point matters. This is not an article about chasing a trend. It is about being ready when the door opens, because the first weeks will belong to stores that do not have to start from zero.
Why preparation decides the outcome
When TikTok Shop opens in a new market, two things happen at once: the platform wants working stores to showcase quickly, and your competitors start building. A store that is already in order skips the entire build phase.
Concretely: Shopify has an official TikTok Shop integration. The Shopify product catalog syncs to TikTok, so a store built in Shopify today can in practice switch on TikTok’s checkout when the service opens in Sweden. The catalog is already in place. The product photos are already done. What remains is turning it on.
Stores without their own platform, or locked into a marketplace, are left at the starting line: structuring product data, producing photos, sorting payments. That work takes weeks or months, exactly when the head start is worth the most.
Live selling: the format driving it all
The biggest engine in TikTok Shop is not the shop tab, it is the live streams. A host shows products live, viewers ask questions, and purchases happen in the app while the stream runs. In Asia the format has long been a dominant sales channel, and it is growing fast in the European markets where TikTok Shop is live.
Live selling can also be practiced now, without TikTok Shop. The broadcast and the format work today, only the checkout still goes through your own store. Sellers who start streaming now will have an audience, habits and routine by the time the checkout moves into the app.
How to prepare, in the right order
- Own store, own platform. A store you control, with your design and your customer data, for example in Shopify. Not only a profile on someone else’s marketplace.
- A clean product catalog. Names, photos, prices and variants in order. The catalog is what syncs to TikTok and becomes what the customer sees in the app.
- Start with video. Short product clips and ideally test streams. The format is the craft, and it takes longer to learn than the technology.
- Skip the rest for now. Ad packages, “TikTok Shop guarantees” and prepaid launch services for a market that has not opened are money wasted.
What we build for our clients
We build ecommerce fully custom on top of Shopify: your design on the outside, Shopify’s checkout, VAT and security on the inside, and you own the account, the domain and the customer data. Right now we are building a flagship store of exactly this kind for a leading Swedish artist. The same build is, with no extra work, prepared for TikTok Shop the day the service opens in Sweden.
If you want a store that is ready before the queue forms, we build it. And if you want to get going with short-form video and the live format already now, get in touch.
